Plantronics Backbeat Go 3 Review

Headphones SG on 9th Jan 2017

There has been a lot of buzz around the all new Plantronics BackBeat Go 3 and it is so easy and very obvious to see why they are the talk of the town. In our review, we use them while running and exercising, for leisure, and for work. So here is our honest review of the Plantronics BackBeat Go 3 and I hope you fall in love with them just like we did. We covered the most important parts of the Plantronics BackBeat Go 3 so you can see what it is like to own these pair of the earplugs.

Design

The Plantronics BackBeat Go 3 comes in 2 versions – one without a charging case, and one with a charging case to give you that extra juice when you run out. The case is relatively well designed and fits the ear plugs perfectly so there is no need to fumble around when you are looking to charge the earplugs in the case itself. The charging case will match the ear plugs that you choose to get. It is also easy and convenient to see the charging levels of the ear plugs and the charging levels of the charging case separately. A white light will indicate the level of charged the case or ear plugs are. There is also a line separating the two sides with a picture of the corresponding ear plugs or charging case to its corresponding side. The ear plugs come with three different ear tip sizes excluding the ear tips that are already attached to the ear plugs. The right ear plugs are very comfortable in my ears and they do not fall out while I am running or exercising. It is easy to find the perfect fit for your ears no matter the shape or size of your ears. The Plantronics BackBeat Go 3 come in two different color options which are granite gray and copper gray (like I said earlier, the charging case will match the color of the earplugs you choose). Both colors are really cool and kind of have a marble design added to them but my favorite has to be the granite gray and that is the color I chose to buy for my ear plugs. Therefore, the color of my case is white and black and it looks so awesome when paired with my ear plugs. The copper gray ear plugs come with a reddish and black charging case. The design of the ear plugs is actually really interesting. For example, the buttons for power / pause / call (a small square button), volume up / fast forward (a small plus sign button), and volume down / rewind (a small minus sign button) are very different so it is easy to click a button and know what it is and what it does without looking. This really helpful and really convenient. Not a lot of ear plugs offer this amazing quality. They are not completely wireless since the two ear buds are connected with a wire, however, they still are Bluetooth. The MicroUSB charging port can be found on the right earbud, and the remote unit that I mentioned earlier is located on the same side just a little below the earbud.

Fit & Comfort

I did mention a little earlier in this review that the ear buds are comfortable and stay put and they really do but I will go into further depth about the comfort and fit of the ear plus in this section. The Plantronics BackBeat Go 3 ear buds are so comfortable to wear and they do not even wiggle the slightest bit while I am exercising. I can wear them all day long and even fall asleep with them on (and I do) and not still comfortable with them on. When I wake up from a nap or from a full night of sleeping, they are still nice and snug in my ears and my ears will not hurt or be irritated. Like I mentioned earlier, the earplugs come with three different ear tip sizes excluding the ones that are already attached to the ear buds (four different ear tips in total). It is really easy to find the perfect ear tip for your ears. Once you find the perfect ear tip size for your ears the seal is just so great. Hardly any outside noise makes it through the perfect seal. The earbuds fit nice and snug inside your ear without any part of them sticking out from your ear awkwardly. Overall, the comfort and fit is really amazing and something that most ear plugs do not offer.

Connectivity & Battery Life

The Plantronics BackBeat Go 3 easily connects to other devices through Bluetooth without ever dropping the connected device and making you reconnect. You can only connect to one device at a time which is not a big deal at all because most devices are made like this anyway. A very friendly female voice interface will inform you for how much time you can use the earplugs for with the current battery level you have left. She will not remind you so often to the point that she gets really annoying. She only informs you when she feels it is import for you to know about how much time you have with the device with its current battery levels. So it is really easy to know when you have to charge the earplugs again. She will also tell you when you are getting an incoming call or when you are skipping a track amongst other things. I am pretty sure you can adjust this to your liking, I never have because I feel like it is perfectly fine on its own. But you do have that option if you so please. On a full battery, the ear plugs will last for about six hours or more so they last a really long time compared to other Bluetooth ear plugs. If you include the charging case, you can get a full day of nonstop usage. You can get a lot of usage on one battery life with the Plantronics BackBeat Go 3. Other Bluetooth ear plugs do not offer this kind of long lasting battery life for both the earplugs and the charging case, so this is a really amazing added quality to the earbuds.

Sound Quality

When it comes to sound quality, the makers made no short cuts and did their best to give you the best sound quality possible. The sound quality for the Plantronics BackBeat Go 3 are great given that the price point is relatively affordable. You get expensive level sound quality for a very fair price. While the sound is just great, do not expect them to cancel out all the noise because they are not noise canceling earplugs. Despite that fact, the earplugs do block out most sound and noise, just not all of it. It helps if you have the right fitting ear tip so the seal can block out most of the outside noise. There is no static or interference that messes with the sound quality. When using the right size of earbuds, the seal is perfect and helps give you the best sound quality possible. The bass is really amazing and is also well balanced with highs and lows of certain music. You are listing to way music and podcasts are truly meant to sound like when you use these the Plantronics BackBeat Go 3.

Our Verdict

Our overall opinion of the Plantronics BackBeat Go 3 is that they are a great sounding pair of wireless bluetooth headphones at a relatively affordable price. While the Plantronics BackBeat Go 3 is not ground breaking in terms of design, battery life or quality, they are a good set of bluetooth earbuds that will serve its purpose. There are no major negative aspects about Plantronics BackBeat Go 3 but they do have to keep in mind that other brands have produced some very good earbuds, in particular the Jaybird X3 and Bose Soundsport Wireless models. Overall, the design is modern, fits well, and comes with sufficient battery life. For sports fans, they are worth every single penny and will probably be the best investment you will make to keep you motivated during those long hours at the gym or on the road.
